The thing AI cannot replicate
Human energy, lived experience, and four systems that can work in the background.
By Makeda Boehm
I just got back from Mic Drop Live in Indianapolis, and I'm honestly still processing how much that room gave me.
It was full of powerhouse women, so supportive, so affirming, so life-giving. Women kept coming up to tell me how my talk inspired them, and that is not something I take lightly or for granted.
That's the kind of energy that solidified something I've been sitting with for months. The next wave of greatness in the AI era is in real life. In rooms. With people who are aligned with your mission.
I've spent years working in AI tools every day. There's a lot AI can do. It can carry repeatable work at a scale I would not do by hand.
The thing that's AI-proof, the thing that cannot be replicated, at least not in any way I've seen, is the energy. What you feel in a room when you're connected to people walking the same direction. Your lived experience and how you perceive your story. That's irreplaceable.
This is why I speak. This is why I think it matters that you use your voice.
Continue telling your stories. Continue being you.
That's the thing AI cannot touch.
Let the systems carry what systems can carry
Two weeks earlier, I had shared seven Skills. Skills are reusable instructions you invoke when you need them. An agent can carry a multi-step job using tools and context. Some agents start when you ask. Others run from a trigger, schedule, or condition and can keep working while you're with a client, asleep, or living your life.
A Skill gives the work a repeatable method. An agent carries the work forward. I use both.
You don't need to build something enormously complex to feel the benefit. Start with one recurring job.
Morning research briefing
Give the system your client list, the industries that matter, and the sources you trust. It can pull what changed, summarize the top items, and prepare a briefing before you open your laptop. Start with one client. Expand when you trust the output.
Lead qualifier
Take form submissions from your website and compare them with your ideal-client criteria. The system can organize the responses, surface the strongest fits, and prepare a relevant reply or resource for your review.
Invoice follow-up
When an invoice becomes overdue, the system can prepare a reminder in your voice using the client's name, invoice amount, and history. You review the draft, send the right message, and keep the process from depending on what you remember that day.
Content repurposing
Feed the system your latest podcast transcript or voice note. It can produce a blog-post draft, a newsletter section, LinkedIn drafts, and short-form hooks in your voice, using the context and examples you've given it. You review, edit, and decide what publishes.
Pick one. Build it. The point is to feel what it's like to have a system working while you're not at the keyboard.
Then go back into the room. Talk to people. Tell your story. Use the time the system returned to do the part only you can do.
